Brazilian studio or Brazilian freelancers: which to hire?

Brazilian freelancers work well for tasks with a clear scope and someone on your side coordinating the work. A studio makes sense when you need the whole product live, with one person responsible for the result, a fixed price and a deadline in the contract. The choice depends on who will put the pieces together.

The world has discovered Brazilian tech talent. That's good for people working here, and it raises a question for anyone hiring: assemble good Brazilian freelancers or sign with a studio?
According to Deel's 2025 Global Hiring Report, cited by InfoMoney in a story by Anna França published on March 17, 2026, international demand for Brazilian professionals grew 53% in 2025. I've worked in digital product for more than ten years. This piece compares the two paths.
What Deel's data shows
The growth came from several countries. Hiring of Brazilians rose 84% in Argentina, 32% in Mexico, 31% in the UK, 26% in the US, 18% in Sweden and 14% in Colombia. São Paulo ranks 3rd among Latin American cities with the most professionals hired internationally through Deel.
The most sought-after roles include software developers, business specialists and customer experience professionals. In 2025, 40% of professionals were paid in dollars and 55% in local currency.
The story highlights a shift in criteria: “the focus is no longer just cost, and now prioritizes productivity, specialization and impact on results.” That sentence is at the heart of the studio-versus-freelancers decision.

When assembling freelancers makes sense
There are plenty of good Brazilian freelancers, and many are excellent. Hiring directly works well when:
- The scope is a task, not a product. A new screen, an integration, a fix.
- You have someone technical on your side. A CTO or product lead who defines the work, reviews it and puts the pieces together.
- The timeline is flexible. If a freelancer leaves midway, you can wait for a replacement.
- You already have a product live. The freelancer joins an existing system with established standards.
In these cases, hiring directly is efficient. You pay for the work and coordinate with someone who already knows how to coordinate.
When a studio makes more sense
The picture changes when what you need is the whole product, from scratch or from a stalled project. That's when the costs hidden in a freelancer's hourly rate start to add up:
- Coordination. Design, front end, back end and testing done by different people have to talk to each other. If nobody owns that, you become the project manager.
- Gaps between the parts. The designer delivers screens the developer reads differently. Everyone did their part, and the product doesn't come together.
- Exit risk. A freelancer who vanishes midway takes the context with them. At a studio, the context stays with the team.
- Accountability for the result. With five separate contracts, nobody owns the live product. With a studio, someone does.
The problem isn't studio versus freelancer. It's the lack of scope, a written deadline and someone accountable for the whole. That risk exists in both models. AI Vou Eu, an AI travel SaaS, went live in 4 weeks with the Studio because those three things were defined before we started.
How to compare the two in practice
Before you decide, ask both sides the same questions before hiring:
- Who is accountable for the product going live? A name, not a team.
- What's the total price? Not the hourly rate: the project, from discovery to launch.
- What's the date? Written into the contract, with what happens if it slips.
- Who coordinates design, code and testing? If the answer is you, count your time in the cost.
- What do you get at the end? Code, design, access to everything, documentation.
If the freelancer group answers these five questions well, great. If the studio can't, keep looking.
What this means for you
Rising demand has a practical effect: good Brazilian professionals are more sought after, more expensive and more booked up. Building a freelancer team from scratch, with everyone available at the same time, has gotten harder.
If you have a product to launch and no technical lead on your side, the question isn't studio versus freelancer. It's who will put the pieces together and own the date.
How we do it at the Studio
The Studio was founded in 2014 in Fortaleza and has delivered more than 600 projects for clients in 13 countries. The price is fixed after discovery and the deadline is written into the contract. Design and code live on the same team: your project is built by our in-house dev team, not by scattered freelancers.
We use Claude Code and Figma for design and build. And every system ships with an AI agent that runs daily, flags issues and checks that the data makes sense, which helps when the system later moves to your team.
If you need the whole product live with one person accountable for the date, our custom system and SaaS development service starts with discovery.
Common questions
Isn't a freelancer always cheaper?
The hourly rate usually is. The project, not always. Hire several freelancers and you add coordination, rework between parts and your time as manager, which rarely shows up in the spreadsheet.
Can I start with a studio and build an in-house team later?
Yes, and it's common. The studio launches the first version and hands code, design and docs to the next team. Put this in the contract from day one.
How do I evaluate a studio before signing?
Ask for case studies with timelines and results, talk to the people who will build it, and check whether the price comes after a discovery. A deadline written into the contract is the best sign that the studio controls its own process.
